]]>Pan card or permanent account number is an essential document having acceptance as ID proof at almost all places in India. That is why it is also called national identity proof. It is a valid document for opening a bank account, booking a railway ticket, a Demat account, making an Aadhar card, etc. But the significance of the Pan card is beyond identity proof. It is a document issued by the Income Tax Department and an obligatory piece for many financial transactions. If you still do not own a pan card, then know how to apply for a pan card and get it.
An applicant can apply for a pan card both online and offline. The process of filing an application is not more than 15-20 minutes. So, let’s check the online and offline methods for the same.
Through NSDL Portal: Step By Step Guide
Visit the website of TIN NSDL to click on the option to apply for a new pan card.
Click on the option ‘New Pan Card For Indian Citizens’.
A new page will open with Do and Don’t instructions. Carefully read it and tap on the option “Online Application for New Pan (Form 49A).
The Pan form 49A will open soon after you click on the option. Now, carefully enter all the necessary information.
In the applicant type, select option New PAN -Indian Citizen (Form 49A) and in the category, select the option Individual.
Fill in all personal details.
The applicant receives a security code on the registered mobile number. Enter the same and check all details thoroughly before submitting.
After clicking on the submit button, the payment page will open. Here you need to pay the charge of Rs 94.
You can pay the amount through DD, Cheque in favour of NSDL. The option to pay via credit card, debit card, net banking is also there.
After the successful payment, you will receive an acknowledgement receipt with a number. Take its printout, fix passport size photographs, sign in the signature box with a black pen.
Send the acknowledgement receipt to the income tax department, along with proof of address and identity, within 15 days of applying.
You will receive the pan card number on your registered mobile number and email ID after validation.
To apply for a PAN card through the UTIITSL portal, you need to visit its official website.
Check the top menu and click on the option ‘Services’. A drop-down list will open. Select PAN Card here.
In the PAN card option also a drop-down list is present. Click on the same and select the option ‘Apply for PAN Card’ to start the process.
Then click on the option PAN card as an Indian Citizens/NRI.
Tap on the option ‘Apply For New PAN card (Form 49A). After clicking on the option, a new page will open where you need to tap on the option ‘Digital Mode’ to apply for PAN online.
Carefully fill in all the mandatory details.
Thoroughly check all the information shared and click on the Submit button.
Then the payment page will open. Pay the charge of Rs 94 using different payment options.
After the successful payment, you will receive an acknowledgement page with a number. Take its printout.
Fix your passport size photograph on the acknowledgement form, sign it with a black pen and send it to the Income Tax Department within 15 days of submitting the online application.
You will receive your PAN card number on your registered mobile number and email ID after the verification. Applicants receive the hard copy of the PAN card within 20 working days of applying.
To apply for a PAN card offline, download Form 49A from either UTIITSL or NSDL portal and take its printout.
Fill in all the details as asked in the form.
The details must match with the identity proof and residential proof you are submitting.
Fix passport size photographs and attach other relevant documents.
Submit form and document at NSDL or UTIITSL PAN service centre along with the processing fee of Rs 94.
Applicants receive the PAN card number on their registered phone number via SMS and email ID after validation. Applicants receive the PAN card within 20 working days from the day of applying.

]]>There were 50.95 crore PAN cardholders in India as of June 2020. The number is on the rise. The government simplified the process of acquiring a PAN card by linking the Aadhaar card with it. It takes only 5 minutes to apply for a PAN card using the Aadhaar number.
With the entire population having PAN cards, the government can keep a tab on money laundering. A PAN card is essential for you too. Opening a bank account, investing, filing an ITR, and applying for a home loan are some of the functions of a PAN card.
You can apply for a PAN card online through the NSDL or UTIITSL website. Also, you can visit their PAN card service centres to submit a physical application offline.
For a PAN card application, you have to fill form 49A. It is available on NSDL or UTIITSL websites. You can download and print it. The hard copy of form 49A will be available at the PAN card service centres.
The fee, inclusive of service tax, for obtaining a PAN card is Rs.94.
Along with the application form, submit identity proof, residence proof, and date of birth proof. Also, submit two passport size photographs.
Fill the form in block letters. Ensure the scanned photograph is coloured, 300pi and 213*213 pixels resolution, and JPEG format. Its size should not be greater than 30kb. The image of the signature should be black and white, 600pi resolution, and JPEG format. It should not exceed 60kb in size.
Visit the NSDL website.
Click on the option “new PAN card for Indian citizens.”
Form 49A appears on a new page. Populate the form with accurate personal details such as the Aadhaar card number.
Enter the security code.
Before submission, check your form thoroughly.
After clicking submit, the payment page will open. You can use digital payment methods like debit or credit cards, net banking. Otherwise, you can pay with a Cheque or DD in favour of NSDL.
Finally, an acknowledgement receipt will appear. Print this receipt. Affix your photograph and signature on the acknowledgement receipt. Post it to the IT Department with identity, residence, and date of birth proofs in 15 days.
After validation, the PAN card number is received through SMS and email. The hard copy of the PAN card arrives in 20 working days at your registered address.
The application process is the same through the UTIITSL website. Be sure to select the “New PAN card application option. To apply offline, visit the nearest PAN card service centre, obtain form 49A and fill it with mandatory details. The identify proof and residence proof should support the details in the completed form. You can even find form 49A online and take a printout. After filing the form, attach proofs, affix the photograph, sign, and submit the form at the centre. Payment options are DD, Cheque, cash, and digital payment methods.
